The word grub has come to mean food, but it originally refers to the act of searching for it: digging in dirt for bugs, as birds do. This dual meaning of grub reflects how sustenance exists as a noun and a verb. It is the things we consume, but also the things we see, feel, make. After all, what feeds us? Food, of course, but also the neighborhood and buildings you walk through; the sight of your favorite store; the familiar weight of your bag; the flowers and bugs that brush by; and art. Art surely feeds us.

People’s lives are enriched by both making and seeing art. At the root of it all, people make art about what they care about. This exhibit invites the viewer to contemplate the spaces and subjects the artists chose to depict and their personal and symbolic meanings. In doing so, they can enjoy some good grub
