Over Lap and Lay

It started not with a speaking but a listening. Telepathically communicated. A wiseness that wasn't put into words but a quiet understanding. The daffodil spoke in whispers. The M’s and S’s as prominent sounds. Like when you turn the radio down so far you can only hear the s sound. I guess the blanks, filling in the other letters. As the days pass and I pay more attention, the volume rises. As the volume rises melodies string the words together.

People and the natural world. Where should there be space? Where is there overlap and intertwining between the two? Ways that we are nature and ways that we view nature? These pieces bring a new view and appreciation for the world that surrounds us. Overlaying and collage is a technique that reappears often in this work- a lens for approaching these questions. Further investigation happens through techniques of mirroring nature’s growth patterns (replication with variation), using tracing as a medium, as well as examining contrasting places of simplicity and complexity.
